    Job Description:

The VP/Director will lead Quantitative Research and Analytics for BIS. S/he will be responsible for creating a global, data-centric research capability to complement the fundamental, more qualitative company-specific research conducted by BIS voting analysts. The person in this role will lead new quantitative research using large data sets – to link our sustainability-related investment convictions to our KPIs and to demonstrate the impact of our engagement and voting on long term value creation by portfolio companies. Working with regional analysts, s/he will identify the research inputs needed to inform engagement and voting and develop capabilities for capturing BIS research outputs (e.g., Aladdin Research Notes, proprietary ESG ratings in future). In this role, the VP/Director will also build and maintain various tools and processes in support of BIS’ voting and client reporting operations.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Work closely with other analytical functions across BlackRock Solutions, the Aladdin Product Group and Risk and Quantitative Analysis to spec and build solutions
    • Further substantiate our investment conviction that sustainability-integrated portfolios deliver superior risk-adjusted returns
    • Support and drive the evolution of the stewardship platform, spanning research, voting operations and client reporting
    • Draw out connections and linkages between top-down research and stewardship KPIs, as input into policy and KPI selection
    • Golden source of truth for data-rich publications
    • Develop expertise in third party ISS ProxyExchange platform and how it interfaces with Aladdin and other external parties
    • Ensure integrity of the BIS data environment
    • SIMBA, other Aladdin-based data, and proxy advisor data
    • Work with regional analysts, BSI and external data partners to develop the optimal research inputs to inform engagement prioritization and voting decisions
    • Provide input into approach and support implementation of fundamental, bottom up company-specific BIS research products for use by BIS and fundamental active investors
    • Oversight and quality control of proprietary data sets
    • Lead new quantitative research, working with BlackRock Sustainable Investing (BSI) and BlackRock Systematic (BSYS) research colleagues and drawing in BIS colleagues as thought partners
    • Direct junior data analysts in appropriate design and use of data tools and reports
    • Continue to evolve structure of Aladdin Research notes (e.g., embedding KPIs used to track TCFD and SASB expectations)
    • Be a practical thought partner as analysts develop the next generation of scalable, proprietary BIS governance (or broader ESG) scores
    • Demonstrate the relationship between our engagement and voting and long-term value creation
    • Innovative data sources, e.g., Rhodium for climate, natural language insights

    Job Requirements:

    Qualification & Experience:

    • Experience managing numerous data and analytical professionals in a complex, global environment
    • Working knowledge and experience with relational databases and Sybase SQL or other scripting and programming languages eg. R, Python, SAS, VBA or UNIX.
    • Demonstrated experience with building research and analytics platforms with focus on financial services
    • Strong understanding of data available in the investment management industry and experience in managing and accessing such data to support research efforts
    • Effective communication skills, both written and spoken. The successful candidate must have the confidence and ability to persuasively interact at the most senior levels and collaborate with both technical and non-technical personnel
    • 7+ years’ experience in research and analytics roles related to investments, financial services or ESG topics
    • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) preferred within a business or technical field (finance, economics, etc.)
    • Experience with Aladdin data models, tooling and APIs a plus
    • Experience with ESG data, proxy voting or corporate governance topics a plus
    • Outstanding interpersonal characteristics, reputation, and team orientation, which will enable her/him to command the confidence, loyalty, and respect of colleagues
