    Job Summary

    The University of Alberta Libraries, with a long tradition of service excellence to the University and its communities, seek a dynamic professional to contribute to services based from the H.T. Coutts Education and Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation Library for a period of six months.

    The Coutts Library provides service within the larger University of Alberta Libraries system.  We provide collections and services in support of the research and teaching of the Faculties of Education, including the School of Library and Information Studies and the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation.

    This full time sessional librarian appointment will be for a period of six months. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to serve as an advocate in the delivery of services to faculty and students in the Faculty of Education. Knowledge of scholarly communication and digital information resources is essential for this position. The successful candidate will contribute to work within an integrated service model.

    Requirements

    • Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent;
    • Previous experience with teaching and instruction, new modes of service delivery, and electronic resources is required; experience with project management, event planning, outreach and engagement is desirable;
    • Academic background or library experience in education, social sciences and/or kinesiology sport and recreation is desirable;
    • Demonstrated familiarity with print resources and electronic databases, indexes, internet searching and the overall technical environment of libraries is essential;
    • Knowledge of research impact measures, scholarly publishing, and research data management services

    Applicants must also possess a strong service orientation, excellent instructional and communication skills, superior information management skills, and a commitment to cooperative and innovative solutions. The candidate will demonstrate evidence of ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, and the ability to be flexible to changing circumstances. The candidate will possess a high level of competence with electronic information sources and new technologies, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, leadership qualities, and evidence of ongoing professional development and involvement.

    Evening and weekend work may be required.

    Sessional Librarians are governed under the Temporary Librarian, Administrative, and Professional Staff Agreement and has an annual starting salary of $62,231. Librarians at the University of Alberta have academic status and participate in a generous benefits program.
